Communications Accuracy Checklist

A check mark means that you have actually checked the accuracy of each item.  Put the letters “NA” for items that are not applicable.

  • All persons are properly identified and the spelling of all names – as well as titles and other identifiers – is correct.
  • If a group of people has been listed – for example, the members of a committee – no one’s name has been left out.
  • All other names of companies, agencies, and places are identified and spelled correctly.
  • Electronic files have been run through spell check, and at least one other person with a knack for proofreading has checked the material.
  • Statements that could possibly be subject to a person’s memory, perception, opinion, or estimation have been verified.
  • Photos are marked with the correct names, and captions correctly identify the persons in each photo.
  • All dates are correct.
  • All addresses and phone numbers are correct.  (This sometimes requires actually calling a phone number to see if it is right.)
  • All times, locations, and addresses for meetings or other events are correct.
  • If there is a mailing panel, the return address on it is correct and the indicia (printed postal information in the upper right-hand corner of the mailing panel) is correct.
